Lunch at Basement of Dataran Maybank, Bangsar
Took the LRT to the Bangsar Station. From the station you can see the building Dataran Maybank which is right across the road. It is just 5 minutes walk to reach this food stall situated at the Lower Gr Fl of Dataran Maybank in Bangsar. It is lunch time and the crowd is already building up. I find that there is a good variety of choices but somehow find their cooking rather oily. I had chap fan which comprises of 3 types of vege and the cost is RM 5.

Science of relationships
"Apply the attitude of what can I do for you rather than what can I get out of you. A relationship that is based on duty flourishes and lasts, one that is based on rights fails." - Sunanda Leelaram from Vedanta Academy

"The moon reminds us that we sometimes shine because of the help of another"

"Sadly enough, Newton's third law does not always apply when it comes to relationships. You do not always get back what you have applied in equal amounts."

Finally to end it off - a joke,

A husband and wife were in a heated argument while driving long distance to a holiday destination. They fell into a long silence until they passed a farm with pigs, cows, chickens and ducks.
The husband sarcastically said, "Relatives of yours?"
The wife answered, "Yes, in-laws".

Macaroni with celery and tomatoes
When I was in Melbourne, even though there are many restaurants that can serve vegetarian meals on request, I still prefer to prepare my own meals as I can then ensure that they are cook with a little but healthy oil, less salt and done exactly the way I want it. I cook very often and because of the many assignments to hand up I often find that I only have a little time to spare so here is one of my very simple and easy meal that I would like to share:

Macaroni with celery and tomatoes
Ingredients:
1 bowl of macaroni
3 sticks celery ( cut into 2 cm pcs )
1 big tomato ( cut into wedges )
A little olive oil and 2 tbsp of spaghetti sauce mix with 1 tbsp of tomato sauce
Method:
1. Boil macaroni in a saucepan for 10 minutes or till soft
2. Fry celery in a little olive oil for 2 minutes, then add in tomatoes and fry for a further 1 minute
3. Finally add in cooked macaroni and spaghetti and tomato sauce to mix well with macaroni, celery and tomatoes
4. Dish out and serve immediately

LIGHTS OFF FOR A BETTER WORLD

Let's all join hands to celebrate EARTH HOUR by switching off non-essential lights for one hour from 8.30pm to 9.30pm tonight!!! Some of you may ask what is there to do in an hour of darkness. However, watching your television without lights on is not a very "green" answer, and so is using your laptop while running on battery mode! So, what's there to do without using any electricity for one hour. I tried it last year and found that it is true that it is hard to live without using any electrical appliances for a whole hour. A good suggestion is to enjoy a candlelight dinner with your loved ones, while enjoying a board game (can I suggest stock market tycoon? I LOVE that game). Only at a board game can everyone sit, laugh and mingle and actually look at each other in the face. Take this as an opportunity to do your part for Mother Nature, and also using it to spend quality time with your family members / friends.

Delicious at Mid-Valley Megamall
Yay found a great place for gathering, as you know I have been having a lot of gatherings lately and have not really found a good location with nice ambiance and quiet environment for the endless chit chats. Delicious Mid Valley is definitely a great place for gathering. First of all Mid Valley Megamall is a good choice for both residents of WP and Selangor as it is centrally located, approachable from KL, PJ, Subang, Klang, Cheras, Puchong etc. Furthermore, western food is definitely a safe choice when it comes to having a big gathering (unless you have friends who strongly object to western food). Loving the coffee, big cup, great taste and okay pricing (RM8 per cup).

Watermelon Smoothie
Definitely a very soothing and cooling drink

Cafe Latte - Illy. YUM
Almost perfect latte. You can never go wrong with Illy, my new lavazza substitute! Would definitely recommend it for my tiramisu recipe!

Portobello mushroom burger with side fries

Creamy mushroom soup
No where near my mum's homemade mushroom soup. Anyone wants the "secret" recipe? post your replies here!

Any good place to recommend for good vegetarian assam laksa?
I love assam laksa and whenever the crave is there, the only place that I can think of and feel that it is still the best place to go for it is still MG's Cafe. Will be so happy if anyone can let me know if there is another place which also serves this tasty dish. I will never have enough of it. This time I also tried their yam cake and find that it is just the right consistency with rich taste of yam and portion is so generous.

Head here for fusion dishes!
If you like Old Town White White Coffee, I think you will like Black Canyon Coffee. However, they need to see to the air-conditioning to make it cooler and also the smoking area to a more secluded spot so that they do not affect the non-smokers. Food and drinks are alright and the price are reasonable.

2nd Hot Air Balloon Festival
The sky was decorated with the presence of multicolored hot air balloons when I arrived. A total of 6 hot air balloons were already up in the air, one after another, prompting everyone to start aiming their cameras (both point and shoot and complicated SLRs) to shoot away. So did I. I was torn between my new Blackberry Bold 2 and my old but faithful Kodak compact cam. In the end I was busy trying to capture pics using both, BB so that I could immediately share with my friends on Facebook, compact cam to capture higher quality shots for future memories.

A enthusiastic youth posing for the camera when I was shooting pics from the car.

With such a sight that greeted me and my best friend when we were stuck in a jam, we expected greater things when we got to the actual location (Presint 2 of Putrajaya, Malaysia). However, we realized that we were expecting too much when we saw only 3 balloons in the air, and their design were nothing special, the typical hot air balloon you'd picture in your mind when you think of hot air balloons. These 3 balloons were only taking people probably 20 feet off the ground then down again, looking at the long queue, we realized that it's not worth the wait since they take forever to take off the ground again (not including refueling breaks etc). Oh well, moving on to other activities, we saw a human ball rolling towards us, with a few crazy kids tumbling crazily down a mildly inclined hill. Wanting to thrill ourselves a little, we headed to the ticket booth, only to find that it costs RM25 for just one go, what a rip off! A whole group of kids were also enjoying themselves to a cycle-kart race, RM15 for 15 minutes, that's reasonable, and I'd go on it if only more adults were on the circuit, lol.

We found ourselves in a semi-restricted area and decided that something special must be about to happen since the MC was making loud announcements. At least the balloons were more special than the "up-down" balloons.

One balloon that actually lifted off the ground after we got off the car.

Ugly looking Levi Jeans balloon

The high profile Darth Vader balloon.

And here's Darth Vader fuming mad as he didn't get to lift off the ground!
Believe it or not, they inflated all the balloons but after the fireworks they were all IMMEDIATELY being deflated. I felt so sorry for those people that had waited in the long queue but did not get a chance to take off in any balloon. coz NONE of the balloons actually lifted off from the ground.

Simple and delicious savory/snack!
I love popiah but have not found a place which serves them vegetarian style. As popiah skin is easily available in the wet market so when you do feel like having this snack, just follow the recipe below. It is so simple to make and everyone in the family will love it.

Ingredients:
1/2 kati popiah skin
1 big sengkuang - shredded
1/2 kati bean sprout - scalded
2 pcs tofu - shredded and fried
1 cucumber - shredded
3 big shitake mushrooms - sliced thinly and fried
3 leaves of local iceberg lettuce - divide into smaller pcs
1 bottle sweet bean sauce/hoisin sauce
A little lingham chilli sauce

Method:
  1. Fry sengkuang in a saucepan with a little olive oil for one minute then cover pot and let it simmer till soft. Dish out and set aside.
  2. Place a popiah skin on a plate. Using a spoon apply a little sweet bean sauce/hoisin sauce on the skin.
  3. Place a small pc of lettuce on the skin.
  4. Add cooked sengkuang, tofu, mushroom, cucumber strips and bean sprout on top of lettuce.
  5. Roll up one side of the skin to cover all the ingredients followed by the two sides and then finally roll up completely but tightly.
  6. Cut into 3 pcs and serve

Fried and baked aubergine

Aubergine is also known as eggplant or brinjals and is a good source of calcium, potassium, phosphorus, folic acid as well as beta-carotene. Aubergine is low in calories. Aubergines not only block the formation of free radicals, it also reduces cholesterol levels. Aubergine is a low fat vegetable, but it absorbs a lot of fat when it is fried. So I have found a way to cook aubergines in a more healthy way.

Ingredients:

1 large aubergine

A spoonful of wolfberries

2 pips garlic

Method:

  1. Wash and slice aubergines and place in an oven proof tray. Drizzle with a little olive oil and bake at 200C for 20 minutes
  2. Fry garlic in a little olive oil till fragrant and add in wolfberries and baked aubergines. Toss for one minute.
  3. Add a little vegetarian oyster sauce to taste.
  4. Dish out immediately to serve.

Cafe WIP, Bangsar Shopping Center
Yet another gathering to attend to and this time was informed that the restaurant to meet is this place called WIP, short form for "Work In Progress" in Bangsar Shopping Centre. I had not heard about this place before and was a bit skeptical as to whether the food will be good and also if it would be a good venue for a gathering. Well, there was no complain about the food and was in fact quite happy with the char kuey tiaw which I ordered as I had wanted it to be vegetarian and requested that any meat to be replaced by tofu. I find the chef is quite versatile as he not only just omitted the meat to be replaced by tofu as some other non-veg restaurants that I have experienced with will just do, he has added broccoli and a few other types of veggies. However, we have to almost shout at each other to be heard to share our stories.

Vegetarian Pizza - RM 28++
Char Kuey Tiaw - RM 18++
Cafe Latte _ RM 8++Name: WIP Cafe

Kohyang, The Gardens
Was at The Gardens shopping again and this time round we tried out the Snow Ice as from the menu it looks quite appealing. Well, were we glad to have ordered it as it came with a huge heap of red beans on top of a lot of konyaku jellies which are both my favorites for ice kacang. It is tasty and enough for 2 persons to share. The non-veg appetizers have been replaced with kimchi and bean sprouts. They were delicious too and we were given a second helping when we requested for more.

Cheap and Tasty Assam Laksa found in Niche, Section 14, P. J>
Since Niche has opened another outlet in Taman Megah, we have not been to the original shop located in Section 14, P.J. So we specially made a trip today to have lunch as we want to find out if the standard of the food served here will be the same as that in Taman Megah. We ordered the Ulu Yam Lor Mee which is suppose to be their specialty but find that it is just very ordinary. It is not recommended at all. The Assam Laksa is however highly recommended, not only that it is cheap (RM2.80 for a mini bowl), the taste of the assam is very tasty that it is comparable to MG Cafe except that the soup is very clear. A little shredded fish added to it will make it without complain. Those who crave for Vegetarian Assam Laksa can go and try it out. We have been informed too that they will be offering more than 70 dishes for only RM15.90 per head. So if you can get 5 or more friends to join in you will get the opportunity to sample many dishes.

Ulu Yam Lor Mee - RM 5.80
Mini Assam Laksa - RM 2.80
