Good to celebrate birthday with vegetarian food
Mothers go through a lot of pain when giving birth, so I always believe that to celebrate our birthdays we should have vegetarian food and thus avoid having to harm and kill other animals for their meat. So it would be good if people can, for a start go meatless on birthdays and slowly try to eat less meat and go vegetarian more often.
According to the Environmental Defense, if every person chose one vegetarian day a week, the carbon-dioxide savings would be the same as taking more than a half-million cars off of U.S. roads. It takes more than 2,400 gallons of water to produce one pound of beef, where it takes only 180 gallons of water to make one pound of whole-wheat flour.

It is our friend's birthday and as there are a few of us who are vegetarians I am glad that the group has got no objection to go to a vegetarian restaurant to celebrate the occasion. We have chosen Organic Recipe Vegetarian Restaurant as parking is easy, ambience is good as the restaurant is on the basement level of Casa Utama Condo, away from the hustle and bustle of the road and surrounded by a lot of trees. Food served here is delicious too. We had 6 vege dishes, a tomyam soup and two pizzas and two pots of fruit tea. The total price came to RM 438 for 14 of us which is quite reasonable.

Meal in the Air - Cathay pacific - New York bound
In the upcoming posts, I'll be sharing with you the vegetarian food and also fun I had in New York and Chicago :)

But first, I'll take you through the vegetarian meals served on board Cathay Pacific from KL to HK and HK to JFK.

KL-HK (Oriental Meal)
Yummy! I love the "soy chicken" and the veggies on the side, not salty, not oily. A very healthy meal indeed!

Fruit platter - Perfect when you're only up for a light meal during a very long flight!

HK-JFK (New York) (Oriental Meal)
Oh i love this set! The gravy for the mushrooms went perfectly well with the rice. The mantous (the air stewardess gave me 2!) was also very well "steamed" as they were not "tough" unlike most store-bought/frozen mantous
Hehe, they even have Tau Fu Far!

I'd go for the oriental meal on Cathay Pacific anytime!

Homemade Pumpkin Soup
A delicious bowl of Pumpkin Soup
Pumpkin has got good nutritional value and normally the way I prepare it would be to just cut them up into cubes and cook them by itself which is tasty enough and also that has been the way that I have been cooking all these years. Now with my new blender, I can try to prepare my pumpkin in a different way which is simple fast and delicious. Pumpkin is not only loaded with vitamin A, C, K, E and antioxidant carotenoids, it also contains magnesium, phosphorus, iron, folate, potassium, manganese, copper, B6, riboflavin, niacin, thiamin and pantothenic acid — and is low in salt, cholesterol and saturated fat.
Pumpkin has been known to be called the Wonder Veggie and here is a very simple method to prepare this fantastic dish by thermomix.

Ingredients:
250 gm pumpkin (remove skin and sliced into thick pieces)
250 gm water
6 pcs toasted cashew nuts
Method:
1. Pan fry pumpkin pieces in a non-stick pan over a slow flame until both sides are slightly burnt.
2. Cut them up into cubes and place them into the blender for 15 seconds on medium high (speed 7).
3. Boil for 20 minutes at minimum stirring (very slowly at speed 1).
4. When cooked, add blended cashew nuts (blend for 20 seconds by increasing the speed slowly from low to high).
5. Garnish and serve immediately.

Healthy Homemade Pineapple and Banana Smoothie
We like smoothie very much and used to get them from Boost Juice which is quite expensive. Now with a good blender (thermomix), a glass of smoothie of your choice of fruits can be prepared in just a minute. So from now onwards, whatever leftover fruits, just leave them in the freezer and the following day just blend them and you can have a healthy glass of smoothie at no extra cost. What I have mixed this time is my leftover pineapple and bananas.
