Forever Green Vegetarian Restaurant, 長榮素食館
This restaurant is very near to Sunway Pyramid Hotel. We parked our car in Sunway Shopping Mall, did our shopping and then went through the hotel to get to this restaurant. The Yong Tow Fu was good and tasty. The meehoon with vegetarian dumplings was very bland and the dumpling's skin was so thick that you really do not want to finish eating it. The claypot vegetarian chicken rice was not cooked in the claypot like the usual ones. I feel the rice together with the seasonings were cooked in bulk in a pot and then scooped and placed in the claypot. Not recommended at all to order this dish and also the vegetarian dumplings.

Yong Tow Fu - RM 7.20

Meehoon with vege dumplings - RM 5.00

Claypot vege chicken rice - RM 6.50

Found this interesting stall in a hypermarket in Ningbo, China. You can find all sorts of nuts, seeds, beans, dates, herbs and grains............Nutritional advice can be sought from the salesgirl as to which condition you wish to improve or alternatively you can also make use of the literature which is provided to choose the appropriate combination to treat specific conditions. Please refer to the chart for reference.

New York New York Deli @ One Utama
One Utama is the only shopping mall with 2 dedicated vegetarian restaurants and I really hope they stay open!

However, we consumers are often spoilt for choice and this time we decided to re patronize New York New York Deli over at the new wing after we were being brushed off at Yishensu and were we happy that we changed our venue to this place? Most definitely as the service is so much better.

Actually our first stop was actually to Yishensu, but the waiter was so rude and unattentive, so we decided to take the business somewhere else and that was why we ended up in New York New York. At Yishensu, what happened was that we had politely asked about the lunch set and whether it was available on weekends. The waiter scowled at us, dumped the menu on our table and stormed off to another table. This is not the first time we have received bad service from this restaurant and I hope they can improve on that.

Malaysian Cendol and Italian Tiramisu - All in one place
One of my good Aussie friend came over to Malaysia for a visit and as a local, I felt obliged to bring her to all the good places Malaysia has to offer. However, it was sad that we had a constraint - time. So, I suggested that she make a one-stop at Mid-Valley the well known food/shopping haven. After indulging in the local delicacies at Madam Kwan's, she had a wonderful time exploring and getting lost in the spacious shopping walkways of Mid-Valley and Gardens, or at least I hope she did.

Met up with her in the evening and as she was still full from lunch, I took her on a dessert tour, stopping at Nyonya Colors for the famous Teh Tarik (Pulled Tea). We asked for 'kurang manis' (lesser sugar) and was very happy that it was really 'kurang'! :)

Next up, I introduced her to Malaysian Cendol served by the dessert stall at Garden's food court. This stall has never disappointed me with the large portion.

We capped off the night with a heavenly slice of Tiramisu from Alexis. Alexis had the perfect setting for two girls who were dying to catch up with each other, who needed a place that was quiet enough for us to not shout when speaking to each other, but allowing us to giggle, laugh and squeal. LoL.

Tiramisu
Cotton soft sponge cake topped with crunchy nuts. The strawberry sauce definitely took the cake enjoyment to the next level =)
Having said this, I still prefer non-spongy tiramisu but this attempt by Alexis certainly deserves a thumbs-up

O Restaurant in Empire Shopping Gallery
"O" . Yes this is the name of the restaurant, from only one alphabet. It is simple yet special, just like the unique dishes served at this restaurant. I found from the manager that this is a branch of Organic Recipe at the Casa Condominium in Bandar Utama. Unfortunately. I find that the original Organic Recipe has dropped a lot in cleanliness and I hope something can be done about it.

O boasts 100% natural ingredients

Comfortable interior

Loh Mee
Not the best Loh Mee that I have tasted but it is definitely one of the top ones. I am surprised at the various cuisines the chef at O can whip up and yet meet your expectations for each and every dish!

Tom Yum Noodles
Yum Yum!

Bitter Gourd Hor Fun (Special transparent Hor Fun)

Basil Fried Meehoon
The basil and fresh chilies compliments the fried meehoon. It was not oily at all! The side salad was farm fresh.

Mushroom Soup

Ginger Fish
A little too much ginger was used. Some of them in our group found it a bit too bitter but to me it was okay.

Seaweed Rice Balls
A little dry but still tasty, goes very well with the fresh lettuce under each seaweed ball.

Sesame Honey Mushrooms
so good we ordered it again during our 2nd visit

More mooncakes to recommend
Ever heard of English Afternoon Tea moon cake? Well, I found this cute little mooncakes with four different flavors of fruit red wine -- grape, raspberry, rose... in the center court of Sunway Shopping Mall. The best thing I like about these Cutiemoon (name of these mooncakes) are they are totally not sweet at all which suits me very well as I really dislike sweet cakes but cannot resist to indulge in them when the festival is around. A very good alternative to the usual cakes to go with your afternoon tea. Four flavors are priced at RM 25.20 if you are a Jusco card member.
The other mooncake which I tried was bought from the stall selling vegetarian dishes in Hong Mei Restaurant in Damansara Jaya. Got the durian mooncakes at RM 7 for four mini pieces. The taste is alright but the crust is too thick and hard to the bite. Not recommended.

Mooncake festival is here!

Mooncake festival is on the 22 September 2010. Many shopping complexes, restaurants, mini markets and even pasar malam and wet market are selling mooncakes. Normally all the stalls in the shopping complexes are from the famous brands and I have not seen a stall selling vegetarian mooncakes yet. Was I delighted this time to find a stall selling vegetarian mooncakes in Sunway Pyramid. Got 4 different flavors from them and I find the "Lotus Vegetarian Mushroom Mixed Nuts Paste Moon Cake" very well made and tasty. According to the ingredients, they have mushrooom, almond, walnut, cashew nut, melon seeds, sesame seeds, dried melon, orange peel, rose sugar, peanut oil and wheat. The mooncake with the single vegetarian egg yolk is almost like the real thing, a little salty and eaten together with the lotus paste is a very good blend. Recommended for vegetarian mooncake lovers.

Blue Boy Mansion - Best Char Kway Teow
This is officially my favourite restaurants (or should i say coffee shop) in KL. One may find many surprises here at Blue Boy Mansion. Firstly, the absolutely tasty Char Kway Teow, fried by an Indian man who speaks very fluent Cantonese. Then there are so many other stalls which sells nasi lemak, yong tau hu, economy rice etc.

The famous char kway teow - cooked to perfection!
RM4

Yong Tau Hu

Ambience is okay la... very clean and orderly for a coffee shop!

Holiday Inn, Glenmarie - Kites Restaurant
Was browsing at the menu and was informed to look out for the 'carrot symbol' for all the vegetarian items that are being offered. I found that a veggie burger is available at RM 22. I was rather surprised to note such a high price for a veggie burger but nevertheless made a request for it. However, I am quite happy with my order as it is not one of those usual burgers one get from the normal shop. This burger is made with mashed yam with mushrooms which was very delicious. Accompanied with fried fries and fresh salad greens, I find it really satisfying. Together with 10% service charge and 5% govt tax, the total bill came to RM 25.60

Organic Place at Subang's New Shopping Gallery - Empire
It is always nice to find new vegetarian eateries in unlikely places. This time, by chance, I walked into an organic restaurant when I visited Subang's new shopping gallery - Empire. It was pretty empty when we passed by and I was actually not motivated at all to try out the food. I cannot remember the name of this place but the famous 'I Love Yoo' is situated right outside. They have a very interesting and mouth-watering menu. They serve all kinds of rice, noodles, pasta dishes and side dishes - including sushi =)

Tomyam Mee Hoon Soup
This dish uses organic brown rice meehoon and this eatery is very generous with the ingredients, as you can see there are cauliflower, broccoli, enoki mushrooms, oyster mushrooms, baby corn etc.
The soup was very tasty and knowing that they do not use MSG, I finished most of the soup and did not have that thirsty feeling after that.

Sesame Mushroom
Extremely yummy. Highly recommended. Even though they were deep fried it wasn't oily at all. The sesame seeds is a great addition to this common dish though I cannot decide whether I like the crispy mushrooms at Delicious more than this one. Nevertheless, this is definitely a great find!

Address: LG, Empire Shopping Gallery, Jalan SS 16/1 (47500)
(“I Love Yoo“ is right outside this organic vegetarian eatery)
Empire shopping gallery is diagonally opposite Subang Parade's Parkson Departmental Store.

A food stall found inside Carrefour Hypermart
I like it when I can get to speak to the cook, as then I would be able to let him know exactly how I want my dish to be cooked like what I want and what I do not want to be included. At this particular stall that I found in Carrefour I had requested for fried rice cake which is made from rice and glutinous rice. I could request that little oil be used, no salt, no ajinomoto and just a little soya sauce. Yum yum........... exactly how I would have wanted it if I were to prepare it myself.
