Best Thai Pineapple Fried Rice Ever - only at Yishensu, 1Utama
As you may or may not know, One Utama's old wing is nearing the end of its facelift and is expected to reopen to shoppers soon, with some shops already upgraded and resumed operations. I do not know the exact reopening date, but if you are thinking to visit and get a sneak preview of what's coming but is having trouble finding the motivation to do so, worry not, as here's a good reason for you to visit this very weekend!

Yishensu, the vegetarian connoisseur, serves the BEST pineapple fried rice in town. Do opt for the "special" as you get extra toppings like macadamias, cashews, raisins, mock fish flakes from the ordinary version. It has a "curry" and tangy kick to it, making it a very appetising meal indeed.

Emperor Tofu (RM 16)
I liked the presentation of this dish and it was a perfect dish to go with steaming hot white rice

Fried Oat Prawn (RM 18)
I loved the generous serving of crunchy oats that coated the spongy mock prawn. I don't really fancy mock prawns a lot, and would actually prefer if they used something else instead, like something tofu based.

Then there is the not-so-special Char Kway Teow. I have to admit, nothing beats the Char Kway Teow served at Blue Boy Mansion. Read it here Blue Boy Mansion

New York New York Deli @ One Utama
One Utama is the only shopping mall with 2 dedicated vegetarian restaurants and I really hope they stay open!

However, we consumers are often spoilt for choice and this time we decided to re patronize New York New York Deli over at the new wing after we were being brushed off at Yishensu and were we happy that we changed our venue to this place? Most definitely as the service is so much better.

Actually our first stop was actually to Yishensu, but the waiter was so rude and unattentive, so we decided to take the business somewhere else and that was why we ended up in New York New York. At Yishensu, what happened was that we had politely asked about the lunch set and whether it was available on weekends. The waiter scowled at us, dumped the menu on our table and stormed off to another table. This is not the first time we have received bad service from this restaurant and I hope they can improve on that.

Yishensu Vegetarian Restaurant
Portion is not something that this restaurant should boast about as what you get is not really worth your money, oh well, beggars can't be choosers! How I wish Malaysia would have as many vegetarian restaurants as Hong Kong and Singapore, so the veggie restaurants would not monopolize the market! Anyway, we do dine here once in awhile, not because it's delicious, but because it's one of the two vegetarian restaurant available at 1U.

This is not free soup, unlike Kuan Yin Chai.
Nice, but quite oily though.

Char Kway Teow
it came chunky. i wouldn't recommend it.

Very common dish, nothing special.
What a bland visit to YiShenSu. We actually ordered another dish, the kung po pork, but it came so late that we decided to cancel it. So yea, slow service, so-so tasting food, won't be returning to this restaurant anytime soon!

Great find at Vietnam Kitchen at 1Utama
Located to next Chilli's in 1Utama, is a nice restaurant that boasts a great dining atmosphere and delicious food. I believe this is the only place (at least to my knowledge) that serves hot peanuts as starters! Loved it to bits!

Stir Fried Lotus Root
Great dish! not oily and a very generous serving of lotus roots

Starters - Warm Peanuts - would definitely come back for this!Avocado Red Bean Shake - RM 6.50
Tastes a little like weak macha tea latte.
The red bean really compliments the drink! A must try when visiting 1Utama

老油鬼鬼, I Love Yoo, 1 Utama
I am very health conscious and thus do not like deep fried oily food. I have actually passed by this fast food counter many times but the name '老油鬼鬼' gave me the impression that they serve all the oily stuffs so I have never bothered to check out their menu all these while. However after having walked for hours in 1Utama and felt that we need to sit down to rest our poor feet and have a light snack, we chanced to pass by '老油鬼鬼 I Love YOO!' and the menu of Set B offering You Tiao and Soya Bean @ RM3.90 caught my eye. I love soy milk and after checking out their you tiao which does not look so oily, we decided to give it a try. After all since we have not had you tiao for ages, it would not harm us to have a small dish of it. We did not regret having indulged in this unhealthy snack as it actually was not that oily and the soy milk was thick and tasty. The fried bun is not recommended as it was somehow not soft to the bite and the filling was very little and crusty.

Menu
Set B - You Tiao+Soya Bean - RM 3.90

Fried Bun - RM 1.40
