Cheap and Tasty Assam Laksa found in Niche, Section 14, P. J>
Since Niche has opened another outlet in Taman Megah, we have not been to the original shop located in Section 14, P.J. So we specially made a trip today to have lunch as we want to find out if the standard of the food served here will be the same as that in Taman Megah. We ordered the Ulu Yam Lor Mee which is suppose to be their specialty but find that it is just very ordinary. It is not recommended at all. The Assam Laksa is however highly recommended, not only that it is cheap (RM2.80 for a mini bowl), the taste of the assam is very tasty that it is comparable to MG Cafe except that the soup is very clear. A little shredded fish added to it will make it without complain. Those who crave for Vegetarian Assam Laksa can go and try it out. We have been informed too that they will be offering more than 70 dishes for only RM15.90 per head. So if you can get 5 or more friends to join in you will get the opportunity to sample many dishes.
Niche has always been one of my favorite vegetarian restaurants in Petaling Jaya and was quite happy when I found out that they had opened a branch in Taman Megah. However, during the day session the restaurant is still run by the old owners until 5.30pm when Niche will take over for the night session. Food being offered during this day session is good and delicious too. The chicken rice set comes with very tasty mock chicken, with soup, bean sprouts and chicken rice chilli. The kon loh mee is alright and the pan mee is hand torn pieces which makes it both chewable and smooth to the bite. Prices are very reasonable and portion very generous.

Had been out visiting with friends and as it is already quite late in the night, we thought that we might as well have a light meal before we call it a day. Not many choices left to look for simple and fast food, so we ended up at Niche Vege Kitchen. Arrived at the restaurant almost at closing time. As this restaurant is famous for their hokkien mee, we ordered for a plate but was told that they had already run out of the thick noodles so there was no other choice but to have fried hokkien meehoon instead. Maybe the chef is not used to frying hokkien meehoon, as it came out to be quite soupy. The black pepper udon however, is quite tasty and the assam laksa is acceptable too. Guess we are considered quite luckyto be in Malaysia, as we can still get food at any time of the day or night when we feel hungry.

Had wanted to come back to Niche to try out the Assam Laksa. Quite disappointing as I find that the taste is just so so and it is a little too sweet. The loh mee is also rather plain. To me, MG Cafe, Desa Sri Hartamas still serve the best vegetarian assam laksa in town.

This restaurant offers very reasonably priced dishes and food here are tasty too. Saw they have assam laksa too. Definitely will have to visit again to try that out.
It is so difficult to get vegetarian hokkien mee and when I managed to find this restaurant serving it I ordered one to try out and found the taste to be good, serving is generous and the price is right.
