We should always try to aim for simple, natural and healthy meal. For me, this is always available over at my favourite restaurant, Kuan Yin at Section 17, Petaling Jaya. This time, I brought a non-vegetarian friend to try out this restaurant. He was very happy with the food, he especially loved the homemade tofu.

Had lunch with a friend who is not a vegetarian. So for non-vegetarians, you will find that the food and the cooking will be more or less the same only minus the meat but it will be replaced with more vegetables, tofu, mushrooms, beans, legumes, gourds and melons of your choice. Do try them and you will slowly learn to love vegetarian dishes. Marketing will be made much simpler as you only need to buy fruits and vegetables and preparation and cooking will be easier too.

Take away dinner bought from Kuan Yin Vegetarian Restaurant
I must say that they taste and look like the real thing. Normally I prefer to eat healthily but once in a while you may just like to let yourself go and eat something that has got a lot of seasonings and flavorings. This takeaway food - the char siew and siew kai fan'' not only look but also taste like the real thing. Take them with the specially prepared chili sauce makes your meal even more satisfying. The butter prawns taste delicious but they are a little bit too oily.

After a long absence at Kuan Yin, due to their overpricing, we decided to give it another try. The food was tasty but the bill was still on the pricey side, though they do try to make up with the portion.
Claypot Bean Curd - RM 15 Not recommended. Better to go back to the popular "4 hei tofu'"
Honey Flavor Roast Ribs - RM 12 Deep Fried dish is not really my liking, and this plate of overly deep fried Roast Ribs didn't get me craving for more - this dish used to be better though.
Complimentary soup of the day Tasty, one can never go wrong with a bowl of hot soup to start the meal

It's been ages since I've had anything from Kuan Yin, and I must say that cravings for the following dishes are not easily satisfied elsewhere, hence, I do find myself wanting to go back to Kuan Yin for more. However, recently, Kuan Yin has been jacking up their prices, and I expect an even greater price increment over the Chinese New Year holidays. Lucky for me is that more and more vegetarian restaurants have been popping up all over KL and PJ in recent years, giving the veggie market a very well-needed competition and choice.
Honey Char Siew with steamed buns although unhealthy, but this is a dish that is extremely tasty, even for non-vegetarians.
Asparagus with belacan excellent combination. Vegetable Curry don't really like this dish as I'm getting more and more health conscious and this dish's ingredient most definitely includes the un-recommended coconut milk
The trusted and reliable Kuan Yin Vegetarian Restaurant in Section 17, Petaling Jayastill the best bet for a vegetarian meal only that I noticed that their prices have increased but consolation is their quality of food has maintained. With the good business that they are having, I feel the boss should consider to do some uplifting job and add/replace some air-conds as the place can be really warm, humid and sticky on hot days
An old friend is back for holidays from overseas. As we were visiting another friend in Section 17 so the nearest and most convenient place to go for lunch will be Kuan Yin Vegetarian Restaurant. Normally, lunch time will be crowded, so we chose to go in at 1.30pm and were happy to find that most of the lunch crowd have left. As both of my friends were not interested to sample any mock meats so I had ordered dishes of mostly natural ingredients. My friends were happy with my choices of food and I am happy that I have brought them here as food standard has maintained and still good.
Just give a call to the restaurant to place your orders and allow them half an hour before you go and collect your food. So convenient especially when you want to avoid the crowd in the restaurant during peak hours. The chicken rice is almost like the real thing, very delicious, not that I still crave for the real meat, but sometimes you just want something tasty.
In terms of convenience, taste and price, Restoran Sayur-sayuran Kuan Yin is still the best place to go as normally you need not have to drive around looking for a good spot to park your car as you can usually find one just infront or not far away from the shop. Choice of my dishes today are delicious except that I find the 'Mui Choy' in the 'Mui choy kow yook' rather salty. However, if you accompany it with rice then the taste should be alright.
Not in the mood to cook? Call up the restaurant and get them to prepare a take away lunch box. Sometimes for a change from the usual vegetable dishes, you just want to have something different. The 'char siew' here is almost like the real thing and taste really nice only a little bit too sweet.
On my recent visit to this restaurant, I noticed a sign "NO MSG" posted on the wall. Good to learn that they are trying to be more healthy in their dishes.

Note: Used to visit this restaurant quite often, but their standards have dropped lately and things have gotten quite pricey.
