Thanks John, for recommending this food stall. I like to frequent 1 Utama with friends and when it is time for lunch, sometimes I feel a bit guilty when my friends have to cater to my vegetarian diet to go to the two vegetarian restaurants found in this shopping complex. However, with this food court which is situated just one floor below Jusco supermarket, my friends can get to eat food of their own choices while I can enjoy mine and we can all eat together. Various set menus were available and after a tough time pondering, I finally settled for Hakka Lui Cha. I am happy with the food which comes with a glass of Chinese tea. Portion is generous and the price is very affordable.

Arrived with very high expectation to have dumplings which my friend has invited me to sample, claiming that they are the best dumplings she has tasted so far. However, we were immediately disappointed when informed that we have to make at least one day advance booking to enjoy them. So we ended up ordering other dishes which turn out to be quite delicious too. Their price is reasonable and portion is generous.

Got to know about Rathdowne's Street Food Store through online reviews and finally managed to try their famous breakfast menu today (we were turned away last week for not making a booking on a sunday morning). Service was up to par and the food was very fulfilling, leaving us unable to move a muscle after the heavy brunch meal.
Ricotta Hotcakes $16.50
it isn't really worth the price as it's just very normal pancakes,
but we ordered it for the lavender flavored vanilla ice-cream.
comes with caramalized pear.
Vegetarian Big Breakfast $16.50
- scrambled eggs, spinach, mushroom, avocado, baked beans, grain toast, baked tomatoes
very huge portion - enough for two people
Egg Florentine $13
First and last pic credits to: breakfast out.

A perfect day to start a cold winter morning is a piece of Lawson's Settler's Grain toast spread with fresh avocado. Though avocados are made up of fat (90% of the calories are from fat), they are said to help lower cholesterol, by raising HDL levels and lowering LDL levels. Avocados are also known to be very rich in antioxidants.
I used a non-stick pan to toast my bread as I felt that I can get a more even toast and there will be no burnt ends.

Here is a really simple recipe to make scones. I do not add sugar to my scones as I prefer to eat them with jam, maple syrup or honey with a cup of hot tea. Great for a gathering with friends for afternoon tea.
Ingredients:
1 cup of self raising flour
1/2 cup soy milk
1 tablespoon of olive oil
Method:
. Mix all of the ingredients in a mixing bowl until you get a lump of dough.
2. Preheat the oven at 200C for 10 minutes
3. Grease a baking tray with some olive oil / butter
4. Roll the dough into 5 cm diameter balls and place them on baking tray
5. Bake at 180C for 10 minutes or until golden brown.
6. Serve warm with ginger marmalade or maple syrup or honey.

Lemongrass offers a very serene environment for one to enjoy their authentic thai food. Contrary to its competitor (Ying Thai 2) just down the street, lemongrass do not practice the "rush-you-through-your-food-policy". The staff are not only friendly but they are also warm and very polite. We tried the following:
Cripsy Corn Fritters
very nice. crispy and unique honey/sugar coated deep fried corn cakes
Tomyam soup
not too spicy. just right
Phad Thai
doesn't look hot but it is quite spicy!
this is what i call hidden spikes! haha

I often wake up to a very empty stomach on a cold winter morning and the best way to fill it up is a bowl of piping hot oatmeal topped with chopped walnutes, soy milk and cinnamon. Recently, I added a serving of fat-free homemade scones to complete my breakfast splurge. It is a very good idea to soak the cranberries / raisins in alcohol like tia maria, vodka, rum as they add an extra kick to the scones, which would otherwise be quite plain (though it doesn't matter since you do eat it with other accompaniments)
Ingredients:
1 cup self-raising flour
1/2 cup milk
1/2 cup dried cranberries (soaked in 4tbsp of rum / tia maria)
1 small slice of butter / 1 tbsp olive oil
1. Preheat oven at 200C for around 10 minutes.
2. Mix flour, milk and cranberries until you obtain a dough that does not stick to the hands.
3. Grease baking tray with butter / olive oil
4. Divide the dough into 5cm diameter balls.
5. Bake at 180C for a further 10 minutes or until golden brown.
6. Serve with ginger marmalade or your favourite jam / maple syrup.
Option: you can add 2 tablespoon of tia maria / rum into the dough during mixing for extra flavor

Black Ruby is certainly a little gem located in Carlton North. We visited Black Ruby for breakfast and have decided that we would definitely go back for more. They are quite generous with their portion and ingredients, though we found the coconut pancake to be a little too sweet due to too much maple syrup on the side.

I frequent MG Cafe for the wonderful assam laksa, which arguably is more authentic than the assam laksa found elsewhere, even the non-vegetarian version! Portion is just right for one and pricing is not too pricey, with the assam laksa going at $6.80. For those that are looking a vegetarian bakery without eggs added, this is the place to frequent! =) Despite being a coffee fanatic recently, I would not recommend the moka pot coffee as the taste was nothing tremendously special for the price that was charged, i think it was RM16 per pot (equals to about 5 1/2 espresso shot glasses).

"Cendol and Rojak" is best indulged under a big tree. A similar comparison would be where ang mohs prefer to sit on the sidewalk where they enjoy a cup of foamy cappucino. This rojak stall is right accross the road opposite the Taman Bahagia LRT station and has tables and chairs under trees making it very windy and cooling to enjoy an afternoon snack! Telll the owner that you are a vegetarian and he will omit the sotong and prawns.

A variety of dishes can be found here. Butter mushrooms are crispy, belacan brinjal not too hot but taste is delicious and Thai tofu has got just the correct sourishness. Szechuan ramen has a good blend of suace to go with the noodles. Price is not too expensive and definitely worth a try.

Just give a call to the restaurant to place your orders and allow them half an hour before you go and collect your food. So convenient especially when you want to avoid the crowd in the restaurant during peak hours. The chicken rice is almost like the real thing, very delicious, not that I still crave for the real meat, but sometimes you just want something tasty.

This is our second visit to this restaurant and being on a Sunday, the restaurant is really crowded with almost all the tables occupied. We made our orders and are quite happy that we did not have to wait too long for the food to arrive. Taiwan Style Monkey Head Mushrooms is still our favorite but it is a bit too salty today as maybe the chef is too overworked and has lost a bit of his standard. Homemade bean curd is delicious too with just the right taste of the sourish sauce.

Hong Mai Vegetarian is open for breakfast and lunch. It has a really good variety of vegetarian dishes to go with rice or noodles and meehoon. There are also many types of kueh, dumplings and paus for breakfast or as a side dish. Lately, she has introduced Mee Java which we have ordered but it was not up to expectation at all.
