If the cut section is too short, you can always join them and also use old zips from old cushion covers as straps for the bag. Straps made from these zips are strong and durable and can outlast the life span of the bag
If the cut off bottom is long enough, you can even make a pocket from it and also sew a pattern on it. Look out for interesting designs found from remnants from tailoring of other clothes.
You can still make a little bag if the cut off jean is just a small piece and sew on some interesting designs. Kids will love to carry such bags to show off to their friends.
