Rasa-rasa Malaysia: Hometown Kopitiam, the one stop place for everything Malaysian.
One cannot be considered a malaysian or visited malaysia (for foreigners) if one has not patronized a Kopitiam (coffeeshop) in Malaysia. Kopitiam is actually a Malaysian Hokkien word, where Kopi is a malay word for coffee and "tiam" is actually "shop" (店 in chinese).

I personally cannot resist their Kopi-C (coffee with skim milk), teh tarik (tea that's "pulled" in mid-air to allow the tea to mix well with the milk and also achieve a frothy texture when served), kaya (egg custard jam) on toast and of coz the famous You Char Kway with kopi (literally translated as "oil fry ghost" which is actually a deep fried elongated dough). Kopitiam has emerged like mushrooms after the rain around all nooks and corners of Malaysia and you'll definitely find a Kopitiam of some sort.

Hot Latte
Hot Milo
Hot Kopi-O

Half boiled eggs
Yau Char Kwai - goes very well with Kopi-O XD
Chrysanthemum Tea
what a huge cup!

Restoran Sayur-sayuran Kuan Yin
The trusted and reliable Kuan Yin Vegetarian Restaurant in Section 17, Petaling Jayastill the best bet for a vegetarian meal only that I noticed that their prices have increased but consolation is their quality of food has maintained. With the good business that they are having, I feel the boss should consider to do some uplifting job and add/replace some air-conds as the place can be really warm, humid and sticky on hot days

Soup of the day (On the house)
Brown rice (On request)

Mixed vegetables curry

BEST Loh Poh Bang in Singapore and I say Malaysia too!
I know I've posted this a few times but it definitely deserves constant reminders as to how delicious they are! Soft and Cottony, these babies definitely melt in your mouth, bringing a pleasant sweetness in your palette, not too sweet but sweet enough to cause one to smile uncontrollably after every bite. I'm not a big pastry fan but I can never resist these delicious Chinese roundies. Yep, i'm a loh poh bang fanatic. Nothing I've eaten is a match to these, not even the ones in Hong Kong! Do try them if you visit Singapore, as it's in a very convenient tourist area (within walkable distance from Bugis Junction, MRT- Bugis)

I have not tried the food at this restaurant as VHF is only a stone's throw away. Maybe next time I visit Singapore!

Ramly stand one side, here comes the Humongous Burgers at Grill'd
Looking for something BIG to satisfy your burger cravings and reluctant to stuff yourself with McDs? Look no futher. Grill'd' healthy burgers are here to save you. At $9.90, you'll be expecting freshly baked bread sandwiching layers of goodies that include: preserved capsicum, chickpea pattie, lettuce and tomatoes. I'm not kidding when it comes to size. It is virtually impossible to take one complete bite unless you take the layers apart or try to compress the layers by force, that's why you see a "stabilizing" stick on the burger. Freshly cut potato chip sticks are to be ordered separately for $4.70 extra.

New Giant Bowl, SS2, Petaling Jaya
When visiting New Giant Bowl in SS2, do make it a point to order the "Sotong Kangkong" dish as I have recently learned that the some of the "sotong" are actually what is now very popular in the market, known as the 'sea bird nest'. This is actually a type of seaweed that is rich in enzyme minerals, minerals, calcium, iron, multitude fibers and jelly form proteins. It is especially good for skin care, vegetarian diet and daily fiber diet intake. It grows naturally and contains no artificial fertiliser and chemical. Their nasi lemak with brown rice is highly recommended as the taste is quite authentic and price is reasonable with the generous portion they offer.

Meat Rice - RM 5.90
Sotong Kangkong - RM 7.90

Nasi Lemak House, Melbourne, Australia
So many friends have been telling me for a long time that if you miss and crave for Malaysian food, to visit Nasi Lemak House on Grattan Street, for the real authentic taste and good news is that they do cater for vegetarians as well. There are quite a few choices for vegetarians and for this time I have chosen the nasi lemak as I really have missed the sambal and the thought of it already got me drooling. I had requested for the more spicy version and was happy that they had replaced the meat rendang with fried tofu which was so crispy and had a tangy bite to it. Sambal was just spicy enough to satiate my crave for the time being and portion was just right. Other than nasi lemak for the vegetarian menu, they also have fried rice, curry laksa, mee goreng mamak and char kuay teow. Will come back to try the other dishes soon.

Vegetarian Nasi Lemak Traditional - $9.20

Miao Xiang Vegetarian - Temasek Market Stalls, S'pore
Morning market is always so busy and bustling with people buying veggie and all types of food and also there will be many others who go there for breakfast. There are many food stalls selling different kinds of food and after going round I found that there are two vegetarian stalls and one of them is this Miao Xiang Vegetarian. They sell soup/dried noodles, dumplings, kuehs and mixed vegetarian rice. Do try them out when around the area as their food is tasty and price is cheap.

Fortune Food Court- Singpore
There are two temples, one a Chinese and the other an Indian, side by side of each other, and devotees, mostly Chinese praying there. It is interesting to see that joss sticks are also being burned at the Indian Temple and I observe that a number of them will offer prayers at both temples. Around this area can be found many vegetarian restaurants and food courts. One of the more famous and most visited, I think, will be the Fortune Food Court, as this complex alone houses many vegetarian restaurants and the choices are so abundant. I will never miss to visit this particular restaurant, Healthy Vegetarian Food, as I can find a good variety of all types of vegetarian dishes and the prices are reasonable and portions are so generous.

Queen Victoria Market, Melbourne
Eating out is really expensive in Melbourne, so being a vegetarian, it will be so much more easier to buy your own vegetables and cook your own dishes. You will note that with so many types of vegetables and fruits on sale, you can have so many choices to eat them. Even if you do not want to cook, you can opt to just buy vegetables and fruits and make salads out of it. Sauces and nuts are plentiful and you can have a healthy fruit and vegetable combination for a change.
The market is closed on Mondays and Wednesdays. Tuesdays and Thursdays, they are opened from 6am to 2pm and Fridays will be from 6am to 5pm. On weekends - Saturdays will be from 6am to 3pm and Sundays from 9am to 4pm. The Queen Victoria Market opened as a small market in the 1850's and today the Market is a major Melbourne tourist destination.
You may wish to visit the place after 1pm if you are looking for cheaper goods as the owners do mark down their prices to try to sell off their remaining stock.

ATTN: Chocoholics!!! Melt-in-your-mouth Chocolate Cake!

Chocoholics please stand up! You are one recipe away from attaining eternal satisfaction. Extracted from the family recipe book, the end product of this recipe is a cake that melts-in-your-mouth. We improvised the "inherited" recipe by adding a touch of melted Lindt chocolate and some simple strawberry decoration, making it an even more irresistible dessert even to the most health-conscious homo sapien on earth.

Ingredients:
(A)
175g butter / 175 ml grapeseed oil
2 tbsp honey
1 tsp vanilla essence
180 fat-free soy milk
110g brown sugar

(B)
210g plain flour
2 tsp baking powder
1 tsp baking soda
30g cocoa powder

(C)
100g lindt 70% chocolate bar

Method:
1. Sieve together (B) and then add (A) and mix well in mixing bowl.
2. Pre-heat oven at 180C
3. Bake for 40 minutes
4. Leave to cool.
5. Cut the cake into half (horizontally) and carefully remove the top to a flat plate.
6. Melt (C) in a microoven at high for 1 minute 10 seconds.
7. Spread the melted chocolate onto the bottom layer. Carefully, replace the top layer and spread remaining chocolate.
8. Finish off with some freshly cut strawberries. Optional: Sprinkle some colored rice flakes for extra excitement.

Heavenly Lindt Swiss Chocolate Cafe Revisited
What a perfect time to visit Lindt, just when the skies are gloomy and cloud starts to turn into cold wet droplets.

The first mouthful of the dense and moist chocolate lava cake was heavenly, especially when spread with the melted dark chocolate. It also comes with a scoop of white chocolate ice-cream

Macarons - chewy french dessert
I prefer the dark chocolate one as the passionfruit didn't taste natural to me

Big Breakfast at Rathdowne Street Food Store (Melbourne)
Got to know about Rathdowne's Street Food Store through online reviews. First visit was marvelous but our recent 2nd visit was definitely disappointing as the portion shrunk and the bread was different from the previous time (we had two slices of different seeded bread the previous time). Nonetheless, it is still quite worth a try, but we recommend the eggs to be scrambled instead of half-boiled.

Vegetarian Big Breakfast $16.50
- half-boiled eggs, spinach, mushroom, avocado, baked beans, grain toast, baked tomatoes
portion has definitely shrunk in our 2nd visit. disappointing!
